Appraisals of works by contemporary African artists

In response to the emerging market and a number of requests, Charles Jones African Art is now offering appraisals of known contemporary African artists, including works by (but not limited to) the following artists:

Appraisal Inquiries

We generally recommend a review of photos in order to let you know if the items have sufficient value to justify doing a formal appraisal. A significant number of the pieces we are asked to review are contemporary and the valuations would not justify the expense of a formal appraisal. We have found that this is the best approach for both us and the client, as it provides an inexpensive way for clients to get knowledgeable advice. We charge $45 for this service, paid in advance by credit card. This $45 is for the review of up to three photographs, and an opinion as to whether further research and appraisal of the pieces is warranted. We may charge incrementally more for larger groups of images. This review does not provide valuations or estimated value for the pieces we review. The review is done to determine whether an appraisal would be cost-effective. Once we have done this review, we can quote you a price for the appraisal and give you options to choose from. You may choose between a restricted use appraisal (valuations for your purposes only) or a more rigorous formal appraisal, for insurance valuations, donation and estate purposes.

Prices for appraisals are quoted in advance and our fee will not exceed the quoted amount. If you elect to have the appraisal done, the $45 review fee is applied to the cost of the appraisal.
